My mate reckons that drink is not a problem for him, “I know me limits”,
he says… it’s just that I keep noticing that he always seems to go spark out and keel over before he reaches them! Alcohol can often make you feel happy and relaxed but it can also make you angry and a pain in the neck. The effect will depend on someone’s mood, when they drink, where they drink and who they are with. But it can cause liver and brain damage, certain cancers and heart attacks. And it can cause you to gain weight and skin problems. It is recommend that women should not drink more than one to two units
a day and no more than 14 units a week and that men should drink no more than one to three units a day - that’s no more than 21 units a week. So what’s a unit? The Government guidelines state that a ‘unit’ of alcohol equals a half a pint of beer or lager, a single glass of wine, or a single UK measure of spirit. Mixing alcohol with other drugs is very dangerous as the effects of each mix are very unpredictable. And alcohol is sometimes used as an excuse for unsafe sex. Feeling embarrassed and confused when you are drunk can lead to unprotected sex so always be prepared. You should also never drink and drive. Alcohol leads to poor
co-ordination. You could kill or injure yourself, your friends or an
innocent person. Some blokes even think they drive better when
they’ve had a drink. Mind you, these are the same ones who think that a few pints makes
them John Travolta on the dance floor. Falling over on the dance floor won’t kill anyone, but drinking and driving most certainly can. Remember, any concerns about booze related issues – your GP is
there to help. Y’ know it makes sense man! |
